3D Face Shield Project

Designed, 3D printed and assembled in own basement 1400 plus National Institute of Health approved Face Shields. Donated the Face Shields to Healthcare providers in hospitals to keep them safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. Investigated and tested various open source 3D printed designs. Developed prototypes and ultimately selected NIH approved DtM Shield as basis for modification.

The high quality Face Shields produced became the preferred choice by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Penn Heart and Vascular Center, Lankeneau and Paoli Hospitals because they were reusable and did not fog up while wearing with an N95 mask.

Sourced and negotiated with manufacturers for materials including PETG plexiglass, buttonhole elastic (from Hong Kong), and 3D printer filament. Operated and maintained 3D printers including Creality CR-10, 5 Makerbot Relicators, and Blackbelt.
